Outright winner
Which golf player will win the tournament overall? You can place each-way bets in this market that cover both the outright win and a certain number of places. More on that below.
To make the cut
Usually after two rounds of play at a golf tournament is complete, those with the worst scores are cut and won’t continue. You can thus bet on players making it through that cull to the final two rounds.
Top X finish
Sportsbooks will also offer place betting in the form of top X finish markets. This could be for a golfer to finish in the first five, 10 or even 20. The more places you take, then the shorter the golf odds will be.
Leader after round
Which golfer will top the leaderboard after the first or current round is complete? Dead-heat rules apply to bets in the event that there is a tie between two or more players.
Head-to-head
You can bet on one golfer beating the other, either in a match against one another, after a round or in the overall standings of a tournament. With the match, you are backing that player to beat the other. A round wager is the player with the lowest score after 18 holes. An outright head-to-head bet, meanwhile, is about your fancy finishing highest.
Dual forecast
An exotic bet where you back two golfers to win the tournament and finish second in any order. As with leader-after-round betting above, dead-heat rules apply to dual-forecast wagers if two or more golfers are tied for second.
Hole in one
Will there be a hole-in-one shot at a golf tournament? This rare feat usually applies to the entire field competing, but you may also find odds available for individual players to get one.
Versus the field
In the event of there being a hot favourite for a golf tournament, you may want to take them on. Rather than backing an individual player against them, you can place a wager on anyone but the market leader winning. This is called betting the field.
Lowest score
Which golfer will record the lowest individual score of the round currently being played? This is different from the outright winner betting, as that looks at figures on the overall scorecard.
Playoff
You can even bet on whether a golf tournament will be decided with a playoff. This is a yes-or-no proposition-style wager. Remember, a playoff can involve two or more golfers.
